Diagnosis of Pericardial Mesothelioma
Diagnosis of pericardial mesothelioma is quite problematic. This rare form of mesothelioma, in majority of the cases is diagnosed only when it has reached the advanced stage. As majority of its symptoms are quite common with those of other cardiac problems therefore it becomes quite difficult for the physician to demarcate the disease as pericardial mesothelioma. Some of the tests that are generally carried out on the patient are a CT scan, an MRI scan, and chest X-rays. To confirm the presence of pericardial mesothelioma a biopsy is carried out. This biopsy includes the removal of fluid or the tissue from the pericardium region and testing for the presence of any mesothelioma cells. Verification of the patient’s complete medical history is done. Whether or not he had been exposed to asbestos at any point of time is also verified.
